In 1954, the Chimirri family came over to the US from the small town of Floridia, Sicily. Mario began working in construction while his brother Aldo began working in bakeries at the age of 13.The brothers then opened the original Flora Pastry Shop in 1970 on Franklin Avenue in the South End of Hartford. The shop was named after their hometown in Sicily, and soon, they had more bakeries, in both Avon and Middletown. Mario became well known for his famous Gelato and Aldo had a beautiful gift with decorating unbelievable wedding cakes. In 1990, they moved to Wethersfield and opened the Chimirris Pastry Shop. Today, they still offer patrons the same quality and exquisit "dolci." Survived by his Wife Nella and his three children, Guy, Lorena, and Patty. This 37 year old legacy continues to provide excellent treats for all who walk through their doors.
